recently, i’ve been toting a lomo LC-A around town instead of my trusty canon. i’ve blasted away over a dozen rolls of film, and have begun scanning a few of my favorite images and posting them to my flickr account. shooting with film again has been wonderful. the grain, color, and tonal response are totally different than digital photography. its more limited in some ways but the process of “letting go” and snapping away again has been good for the (creative) soul. plus its made me remember how to guesstimate luminance values again, and thinking in lumens is something i haven’t had to do in a looooong time.
of course the lomo is very limited technology, a blunt instrument instead of the usual, razor-sharp precision afforded by my digital systems. but beyond the wonky lens, sketchy metric focusing switch, and questionably accurate light meter, the lomo has reminded me of something. i started shooting film and this has reminded me just how much i missed it. i even hauled the good old nikon FE out. expect to see more analog work soon…
until then, enjoy. and check the gallery linked on this page often, as it will be updated frequently!!
