after a fun but rather bourgeois outting at the parc waikiki, shooting a fashion show, i trekked over to pipeline cafe where a few of my favorite poets were doing their thing, and one of my favorite people was painting.  yes yes ya’ll the annual poetry slam grand finals went down this past thursday.

out of respect for the poets, and because i’m getting back into shooting natural lighting for stuff like this, i blasted off a bunch of portraits on a fast 50mm prime.  most of the shots were black and white, mostly because pipeline’s stage lights are red (not flattering on most people), and also because the house lights are a funky yellow (also not flattering, and when those lights are combined people look like oompa loompas).  i toyed with the silent shutter lockup on the mkII and found it to be…(not surprisingly) silent as advertised.  cool.

the slam was definitely the introspective, intelligent, profound omega to the fashion show’s loud, flashy, materialistic alpha.  with my head cleared and my soul fed some intelligent nourishment, i called it a night.  as seems to be the case today, i ended the night with two totally different events photographed.  how rad is that?
