this saturday, i spent the afternoon chilling with a few of the lightsleepers at the public graff walls at palama settlement and watching the future.  huh?  the future, you say?

what i mean is, that kavet and a few of the graffiti heads were there coaching a group of high school kids through a few pieces.  so anyway, right about here’s a good chance to go off on a small tangent:  i believe in karma.  perhaps not that mystical “the universe is in motion” kind of karma that states that some mystical higher power takes an active role in controlling our lives.  my beliefs are much simpler, and a lot less spiritual.  all i believe is that a lot of life moves in cycles.  friendships we built a decade ago eventually bloom into fruition, in the form of business partnerships, relationships, and even an old friend or acquaintance returning a kind favor that you might have forgotten about doing for them.  the same applies to the bad things a person may have done to those around them.  at the end of the day, everything catches up with you, good or bad.  its nothing magic, its simply that people remember what you did to them.

but beyond the whole idea of your good and evil actions catching up to you (i always hated how polar amd judgmental that concept seemed to be), there is one more certainty that my belief in karma allows for: the idea that everything moves in cycles.  what we learned from the generation that came before us, we eventually share with the next.  and that’s exactly what i saw at palama settlement that day.  it was great to see a new batch of eager young writers learning what becomes a lifetime passion, and to see them honing their skills.  looking around i saw nothing but potential and a group of kids who could take what we knew and flip it into something we recognized but never could have imagined.  so yeah, i totally saw the future.  without the delorean, even.
