the brains behind an incredible new project called the interisland terminal hired me to build a quick, simple popup site while they develop a more serious CMS-based web presence. while i haven’t built a site in quite some time, it was such a cool project and cause that i knew i had to jump on board.
this was a project with many, extremely talented hands in the creative pot. the boys over at airspace workshop designed the original splash image, and to pay homage to their process, i incorporated the circled aircraft map icon, the original color scheme, and a few kibbles and bits from their dope splash. the site itself is very, very light, weighing in at a little over 100 kilobytes total (!). it uses some nifty CSS/AJAX hybrid scripting to allow for a scaling/scrolling “file drawer” effect, the mailing list PHP is stripped down and simple, and it’s even viewable on an iPhone. fun, minimalist, and completely google crawlable are all important things to have these days.
and check out the interislandterminal.com, besides being a pretty nifty site, its actually a very cool initiative to enrich the arts and cultural scene here in honolulu!
