i was hired to shoot the clones of the queen. they are an experimental post-indie rockish type band based out of honolulu, hi. in keeping to their unique sound and image, the band wanted a set of strong, unique press photos.
i proposed a controlled-lighting scenario involving directed spot lighting and night. the idea was to capture a sort of natural history museum exhibit feel, something organic that still had an element of the artificial integrated into it in some subtle way. most of the images were shot at an extremely low ISO, a stopped down aperture, and relatively high shutter speed so as to “drown out” ambient light. all lighting was performed with two external strobes. i snooted them and locked their output manually.
it was a fun, challenging shoot. enjoy. and check out clones of the queen!
